A Tribe Switch is the very first game-changing twists of Survivor. This twist sends members from one tribe to the rival tribe and vice versa.

AboutEdit

The Tribe Switch is a twist can happen in a random point during a game and this reassignment of tribes will be effective until the tribes merge or a new opportunity to switch tribes shows up (e.g. a Mutiny or a second switch.)

Normally it would send half of the tribe to the other when both tribes have equal number of tribe members, though it has changed depending on circumstances.

In seasons with the Exile twist, if the contestants cannot be equally divided into new tribes, it is possible that one contestant will not initially join a tribe, and will instead join the next tribe to lose a member.

A variant of the tribe switch, the Tribe Dissolve, is where one or more tribes cease to exist after the switch. It either requires the entire tribe to be dismantled and its remaining members are spread into the remaining tribes (absorption) or requires that all remaining players, usually in four or three tribes, in the game are shuffled between two of four tribes.

Classifications Edit

A tribe switch could be classified as one or more of several types:

• Shuffle - During a shuffle, both tribes could receive a different number of new members, and is typically always done through random draw. Regardless of any potential physical or gender imbalances.
• Absorption - An absorption happens when one tribe is dissolved, with its remaining members being the only ones who are eligible to switch and are distributed to the remaining tribes. This type of switch is exclusive to seasons with three or more tribes competing at a time.
• Swap - A swap is done in a way that ensures that both tribes receive the same amount of new castaways. Usually this is done using a Schoolyard Pick, though other methods have been tried. The term "swap" is often used to describe all types of switches in Survivor Fan Characters, regardless of the specific type.
• Disband - A variation of the shuffle, it happens after a tribe gets dissolved, then a shuffle is done to put the castaways on the remaining tribes. Because of this, castaways from the other tribes are eligible to switch as well.
• Expansion - During an expansion, an additional tribe is introduced after the starting tribes have already been established. A shuffle is then used to determine the members of the new tribe.

On Day 9 of Survivor Fan Characters 3, before the Reward Challenge, It was announced that Pambar would be dissolved, and its remaining members would be joining one of the two other tribes. Lockora received Bessi Bell and Iris, while Roku received Hope and Montana Raines.

After the Day 12 Tribal Council of Survivor Fan Characters 4: Fans vs. Canons, the recently voted out Shiki Misaki was instructed to create the new tribes by selecting two of the tribe's current members at a time, then dividing them by placing them on opposite tribes. Both tribes received four new members, with Lilly Pendragon, Rebecca Chambers, Polar Bear, and Bulma Brief joining the Dakaba tribe, and Marc, Chaona, Joe, and Lucky the Cat joining the Thuklu tribe.

Survivor Fan Characters 6: All-StarsEdit

On Day 13 of Survivor Fan Characters 6: All-Stars, Al Strung VX and Vinnie Reid were voted on by their tribes to receive the final item offered at the Survivor Auction. Which was a one in two chance of the current tribes swapping if the colored ink inside the enclosed orbs they had both selected matched the colors of their opposing tribes. They were both given the option to trade orbs before revealing, but they both refused. The tribes ended up swapping with the five currently present members of both tribes trading places. The only contestants exempt from this swap were Bitsy Mitzi, Kala, Lucky the Cat, and Mana D. Sin who were all currently away on an overnight stay at the Survivor Hotel. Mary, who was currently on Exile Island, would also later end up swapping to Solaris, replacing Craig after he was voted out.

On Day 7, a tribe switch took place, adding a third tribe named Galaxie into the mix. Each castaway was given an egg filled with paint. The paint's color represents which tribe each castaway ended up on. Galaxie would have to move to a new camp with the bare essentials.

On Day 18, Galaxie was disbanded, and each tribe selected a member to act as a representative. The three of them split the others into the original two tribes, then select an egg, which contains paint which would indicate their new tribe. Brandi picked an egg containing blue paint, and, as a result was sent to exile at the Galaxie camp until the next Tribal Council, where she would replace the person voted out.

On Day 8 of Survivor Fan Characters 19: Star Allies, The tribes had arrived for a reward challenge, where it was announced that a switch would be taking place. The new tribes were decided by having each contestant choose an egg with paint inside matching that of the tribe colors. Whichever color the paint was determined which tribe the contestant would be on. As the Ride or Die partner of Sydney Casey, Dante Wagner was exempt from participating in the shuffle, and would automatically join whichever tribe Sydney ended up on. Both of them would end up swapping to Yarnago, along with Fuchsia Amaranth and Trevor Griffin. While Claterra received Aurora, Nico Harlinger, and Sandalwood as their new additions.
